Impetigo is a common contagious dermatological infection that primarily affects children of preschool and school age. The main causative factors are streptococcus and/or staphylococcus bacteria.
It manifests as characteristic skin lesions, such as blisters or vesicles on a red, scaly base, often covered by honey-colored crusts. It is usually preceded by minor skin trauma, while conditions of increased humidity and poor hygiene facilitate its spread.
At our dermatology clinic, we focus on prompt diagnosis and effective management of symptoms to ensure rapid recovery and prevent the spread of the infection. We provide care for every young patient with sensitivity and attention, offering support to parents for the best possible care of their child.
Topical Treatments:
- Mild cleansers/antiseptics.
- Topical antibiotics.
- Moisturizing products to strengthen the skin barrier.
Medications:
- Oral antibiotics.
Prevention of spread
- Daily disinfection of objects that come into contact with the child (e.g. toys, towels).
- Regular hand washing and nail trimming to prevent further spread of infection.
